Color or Paint by Numbers
Coloring by numbers is a quick and easy activity that reinforces following directions
Line up the markers on the table in front of senior.
Ask them to manipulate the crayons based on your directions.
For one step directions, say simple things like “Move the blue marker” “Touch the red marker” or ask them to make shapes such as “Make a L using the makers.”
For two step directions, you might say “Move the green marker to the front.” “Move the yellow marker to second place.” “Move the marker in first place to third place.”
Materials: blue, red, yellow and green markers
Following Directions Using Body Parts
Blink your eyes then touch your left shoulder
Raise your Right hand then touch your nose
Raise both hand in the air and then touch both ears
Touch your Right knee then touch your Left heel
Touch your Left ear then shake your head as nodding, “yes”.
This can be done daily and soon you will be able to make up your own directions.
