Solution Name: Motor Skills Module
A motor skill is simply an action that involves the child using muscles. Gross motor skills are larger movements that have child makes moves with his arms, legs, feet, or his entire body. Crawling, running, and jumping are gross motor skills. Fine motor skills are smaller actions.
Fine Motor Activities:
Pom poms- in general are small, needing small movements to grasp them, pick them up, and move them. The work on hand eye coordination.
Buttons- Small items that work great in developing fine motor skills. Picking them up works small muscles. Additionally, buttoning something up, that takes amazing finger strength and hand eye coordination.
Paper clips- are great for finger movements and manipulation. Being able to slide the clip onto a piece of paper takes a lot of concentration for young children especially.
Clothespins- are a great material for building finger strength.
Rubber bands work on finger strength
Tweezers, Pipettes, Tongs- take a lot of hand eye coordination to be able to operate successfully and move an item from one place to another.
Pipe Cleaners- can be used as a great tool for fine motor skills. They can be threaded and poked!
Straws-can be used as beads, to thread onto something and work well with play dough too.
Play Doh – can be used for building small muscles. Kneading, pushing and rolling the dough.
