Relaxation technique is any method, process, procedure, or activity that helps a n individual to relax; to attain a state of increased calmness; or otherwise reduce levels of pain, anxiety, stress or anger.

Progressive Relaxation​​ 

  • ​​ Jaws​​ - clench her jaws together tightly​​ (imagine a dog biting a bone)​​ and then release that imaginary bone and let​​ the​​ jaw go completely loose.​​ 

  • ​​ Arms and shoulders​​ - stretch arms out in front and then raise them above​​ the​​ head and stretch as high as​​ possible.​​ ​​ Last,​​ drop arms and let them hang loose.​​ 

  • ​​ Hands and arms​​ - imagine squeezing a​​ squishy​​ ball​​ as hard as​​ possible​​ with one hand, and then dropping that​​ squishy​​ ball​​ on the floor and letting​​ the​​ arm and hand go limp.​​ ​​ Switch to the other arm.​​ 

  • Stomach​​ - lie on her back and clench stomach muscles as hard as​​ possible​​ for just a moment.​​ Release them and relax.​​ Do the same technique while standing up.​​ 

  • Legs and feet​​ - stand and press toes against the floor as though digging them into​​ sand. Alternately press them and spread them enough to feel it​​ in the​​ legs, and then​​ relax.​​ 

 

Stretching​​ 

  • Stretching relaxes built up tension in the muscles. Teach how to gently stretch each muscle group and feel the muscles relax.

Toe Tension

  • Lie on back and allow time to sense your toes.​​ 

  • Use the toe muscles to pull all ten toes back in the direction of the face and hold to the count of ten.​​ 

  • Relax toes and hold to the count of ten.​​ 

Visualization​​ also known as​​ visual guided imagery

  • This technique uses the imagination to slow down the chatter of the mind ​​ 

  • Helps to​​ release negative thoughts and worries.

Laughing-​​ Soothes tension and relaxes muscles​​
